“The Reality Next Door - Rethinking Urban Poverty and Social Responsibility” (referred to below as “the Program”) is a 2 day field work run by university students for the purpose of empowering youth. Participants (university and high school students) will participate in outdoor fieldwork as well as indoor reflection.
During outdoor fieldwork, the Program will create an opportunity for participants to meet, talk, listen, discuss, participate and volunteer at external partner organisations in their work in supporting those in poverty. During outdoor fieldwork, participants will be under the direction of partner organisations (organisations that we will volunteer at and work with, organisations that we visit, organisation that the Program partners with to provide this experience) and their staff members. Participants are expected to adhere to any rules and requests posed by organisations and their staff members.
During indoor sessions, the Program will create an opportunity for participants to meet, talk, listen and discuss social issues both within the Program cohort as well as external visiting speakers. During indoor reflection, participants are required to follow any rules and requests posed by Program staff as well as existing rules and regulations of International Christian University.
As with all activities, this Program contains inherent risks. Participants are therefore requested to exercise reasonable caution at all times and report any issues during participation to Program staff and/or staff members of external partner organisations.
Program staff and staff of external partner organisations, the Program and its staff members and the staff of external parter organisations will take necessary safety procedures to ensure that the safety of participants are maintained. However, understand that there is inherent risk to this activity (as with any activity). The Program and its staff members as well as staff of external partner organisations are hereby released from liability from any injuries or damages caused through participation in the program.
Participants are required to exercise appropriate caution and to report any issues to staff members. In addition, participants must be empathetic, compassionate and sensitive in participating in this activity and must ensure to actively and constructively participate in all program components.
Photos will be taken throughout the duration of the program for the purposes of publicity by the program and its external partner organisations. If you do not wish to be in any photos, please inform program staff at time of application.
